2023 Honda HR-V: a major step forward
June 21 2022, Lallier Honda Hull
Since it showed up on the market in 2016, the Honda HR-V has continued to impress us. This spacious little SUV has quickly become a crowd favorite.
That put a little pressure on Honda not to disappoint with its renewal. The company understood the public's message of wanting to see this model improved. And to do so, they took the big steps to make it an important step forward.
Here's what Honda's philosophy was with the renewal of this product.
More power
If the current HR-V had to face any criticism, it had to do with the power offered by its 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine (141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque). Honda fixed that problem by grafting the new Civic's base engine, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that's good for 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, onto the new model. And we're talking about an engine that works smoothly, not to mention being as reliable as the 1.8-liter unit.
Better road manners
Honda also needed to take the HR-V's handling to the next level. It was good, but there was room for improvement. They didn't skimp on it by making the version reserved for us the chassis of the 11th generation Civic. The latter, in addition to being stiffer in bending and torsion, features a rear configuration with an independent suspension.
All of this will serve the 2023 HR-V well, and it will certainly offer a more convincing experience on the road.
A more stylish interior
Once again, we liked the cocoon of the first HR-V, but we knew that customers would demand more. So, the new model will be inspired by what was done with the Civic. It will be an environment where the driver's position will be more interesting, where ergonomics will be improved and where, finally, daily life will be easier. This includes simplified access to everything related to the vehicle's multimedia system.
The quality of materials will also be taken to another level. This will be especially the case with the top-of-the-line EX-L Navi version, which will also offer wireless access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, in addition to touchpad charging for our cellular devices.
Otherwise, you'll also be able to get a 2023 HR-V in base LX (front- or all-wheel drive), as well as Sport (all-wheel drive) configurations.
