Honda Canada Reveals New Civic Hybrid Model
January 19 2024,
Honda Canada has introduced its latest model, the Civic Hybrid, broadening its range of hybrid-electric vehicles. This launch coincides with the announcement that the 2025 Civic Hybrid's production will begin this spring at the Honda of Canada Manufacturing (HCM) plant in Alliston, Ontario.
Legacy and Manufacturing Achievement
The Civic has been a key element in Honda's lineup since its Canadian introduction 50 years ago, consistently being a preferred choice among Canadian motorists and ranking as a best-seller for over 25 years. Since starting Civic production in 1988, HCM has been crucial to its success. In November 2023, HCM celebrated producing its six-millionth Civic in Canada. Currently, the plant employs 4,000 people and stands as a significant player in Honda's global manufacturing operations, notably as the primary facility for CR-V Hybrid production. The Civic Hybrid's production at HCM highlights Honda's dedication to manufacturing within Canada and its significance in the company's North American strategies.
Civic Hybrid Features and Market Outlook
The 2025 Civic Hybrid is fitted with Honda's award-winning two-motor hybrid-electric system, known for its exceptional performance. This system is engineered to provide a more engaging driving experience while boosting fuel efficiency, especially on highways. Honda projects that the Civic Hybrid will make up over 40% of Civic sales in North America, illustrating the increasing interest in hybrid vehicles among buyers.
Honda's Electrification Ambitions
In line with its overarching electrification plans, Honda aims to achieve carbon neutrality in all its products and corporate operations by 2050. By 2040, the company intends for all its new vehicle sales to be battery-electric or fuel cell electric vehicles. This commitment starts with the 2024 debut of the Honda Prologue, the brand's first all-electric SUV, followed by the release of a mid- to large-size electric vehicle in 2025. At CES 2024, Honda Motor also presented the 'Honda 0 Series', its new global lineup of electric vehicles, featuring the Saloon and Space-Hub concepts. A production version based on the Saloon concept is expected to launch in 2026.
